We would like you to have your 17 digit Vehicle Identification number (VIN) number. This number should begin with a 1MD; if it does not, then you don’t have a genuine ShoreLand’r. Your VIN will help us to find out which trailer you own and to get you any information specific to your trailer.
You should find, if they haven’t faded or fallen off, two stickers: one behind the tongue on the inside of the side frame – the second by the right taillight on the outside of the side frame. This is a 17 digit number that begins with 1MD; if it does not begin this way, then it’s not a ShoreLand’r.
If you can’t find these stickers, then check your receipts and records from your dealer; this VIN should be recorded somewhere. If you do not have it in your records, check with the previous owner if you are not the original purchaser.
The final six digits of your VIN is your trailer’s serial number. See "Where can I find my Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)?" for the location of your trailer’s serial number.
We have a
dealer locator. If you have trouble locating a dealer for your area using this tool, that doesn’t always mean you don’t have one in your area. For the latest information on your closest dealer, locate the
distributor for your area; this distributor has an up-to-date dealer list and will provide the address and phone for your best dealer choice or choices.
If you do not find these stickers (or the information is not readable), you can still register your trailer as “homemade.” This would require that you determine the weight of your trailer by
1. Figuring the weight of your boat package – this will include fuel (7 lbs. per gallon), water (8 lbs. per gallon), and batteries (60 lbs. each), and any other miscellaneous weight (trolling motors, coolers, etc) that is in your craft.
2. Weighing both trailer and boat together at a scale, and then, finally,
3. Subtracting the boat package weight from the total weight, which will give you your trailer’s weight.
You’ll need this figure to register your trailer as “homemade.”
Our customers are best served by buying from our dealers. Your local
dealer knows more about your trailering needs and how ShoreLand’r can help you to meet those needs.
Parts manuals for the current model year are on-line. You will need to request your parts manual from your dealer or on our website – remember to include your VIN so we can find the exact
parts manual you need.
Our
dealers will often need to order parts from us so they can sell them to you. This take a little time but you will get the best service and value from a dealer who is conscientious with service.
However, in the event that the dealer says the part you’re seeking is no longer available, you have one good choice. You will want to use our
Trailer Model Selector on our trailer pages to see what current model will meet your trailering needs and then seek purchase. Your trailer was built by skilled workers and designed by expert engineers – we suggest you start with a new trailer to secure your investment and the safety of those in its vicinity.

Check the grease in your hub once a year. In most instances, if a good quality lubricant is used and the lubricant levels are maintained, it may not be necessary to repack the bearings. However, should the grease appear to be contaminated or broken down, remove all the old grease from the bearings and hubs and completely repack. Removing the rear bearing will most likely cause damage to the rear seal. A new one should be installed when reassembling.
Over based calcium sulfonate is installed at the factory. The manufacturer of this grease is a company called Metal Cote out of Chicago, IL. Any good marine grade, water resistant grease, such as is provided by this manufacturer, is recommended. Different types of grease shouldn’t be mixed.

The ShoreLand’r disc brake system is equipped with a five wire electrical harness and a “flat five” type plug-in. The additional wire (blue) must be connected to the tow vehicle’s back-up lights. This is necessary for the system to override the trailer brakes while backing. A five-wire pigtail for the tow vehicle is available as an accessory from ShoreLand’r or from your local auto parts store.
If the electrical system override is not functioning, or in an emergency, the only way to back the trailer is to use the “lockout key” shipped with each trailer. The lockout key is a metal tab that is square on one end and round on the other. When this key is placed in the slot on the left side of the tongue, it will prevent the surge brake piston from moving, thus locking out the brakes. WARNING: IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO REMOVE THE LOCKOUT KEY BEFORE TOWING THE TRAILER AS THAT DISABLES THE BRAKES.
A variety of conditions exist that contribute to a used trailer's worth: original purchase price, condition of the trailer, parts that may need replacing, tire wear, etc. We do not set used trailer prices and will not offer to price your used trailer due to these variables. If you would like to see a ball park value based on NADA information, please visit
www.nada.com. You will need to know the length of your trailer and the number of axles as well as any options (i.e. spare tire bracket, spare tire, etc.).
You’ll need to do two things:
1. First, send us, via
email or traditional mail service, the following pictures of your trailer:
|
• A full-side view. |
|
• A front view. |
|
• A rear view. |
|
• A close-up shot of your trailer’s fenders. |
|
• A close-up shot of your trailer’s winch post. |
2. Second, with your photos, send by
email or traditional mail service, the following answers to these questions:
|
• Did the boat that is on the trailer come with it as a package? |
|
• Regardless, what is the model year of the boat? The make? Model? |
|
• What is the width and height of the frame (not the trailer tongue)? For example, 1.5 X 3, 2 X 3, 2 X 4, 2 X 5, 3 X 5, 3 X 8, Aluminum I-beam. |
|
• From the following winch post styles, which one best resembles the one on your trailer? Show pictures of PWC, Fishing, Telescoping, Profile 2000, Boomerang, Aluminum, and Pontoon. |
|
• Are the fenders steel or poly (plastic)? |
|
• What are the tire specifications (for example ST175 80R 13C)? |
|
• What is the overall length of the trailer? |
|
• What is the overall width of the trailer? |
|
• What is the width between the fenders? |
|
• Are there brakes on the trailer? Disc or Drum? |
|
• Is this a bunk trailer or roller trailer? How many rollers are on the trailer? |
